On Saturday 16th May 1998 the first IBIS Full Day Seminar was held at The Artworkers' Guild on the subject of 'An Introduction to Magazine Illustration 1860-1960'. More than 40 members and guests were present to hear Leo de Freitas, Diana Dixon, John Jensen, Paul Goldman and Geraldine Beare speak on various aspects of the subject. Jean Hedger chaired the proceedings and managed the lively discussion that the speakers inspired.

The topics addressed and speakers were:

Editorial Illustration and the Professional Illustrator by Leo de Freitas.

Sentimentality and Suspense: Illustration As Narrative in Victorian and Edwardian Children's Magazines by Diana Dixon.

Illustrated Magazines of the 1860s - An Introduction by Paul Goldman.

Sorry! Not Quite by John Jensen.

The Strand Magazine - 1891-1950 by Geraldine Beare.

On Saturday 16th October 1999 the second IBIS Full Day Seminar was held at The Artworkers' Guild on the subject of 'Aspects of 20th Century Book Illustration'. More than 40 members and guests were present to hear John Lawrence, Joanna Selborne, Sue Bradbury, Geoffrey Beare and Joe Pearson speak on various aspects of the subject. Jean Hedger once again ably chaired the proceedings.

Introduction: Forty Years as an Illustrator by John Lawrence.

British Wood-Engraved Book Illustration, 1904-1940 by Joanna Selborne.

The Illustrated Gift Book by Geoffrey Beare.

On Saturday 27th April 2002 the third IBIS Full Day Seminar was held at The Artworkers' Guild on the subject of 'Victorian Illustration' . More than 30 members and guests were present to hear Elizabeth James, John Buchanan-Brown, Dr Julia Thomas and Dr Simon Cooke speak on various aspects of the subject. Paul Goldman chaired the proceedings and managed the lively discussion that the speakers inspired.
